Body Print Daybed
As an introduction to my thesis, I focused on making a piece of furniture that could produce a physical representation of the interaction with the user. The Daybed is constructed with a round and square steel tube frame and an upholstered foam cushion. Hidden under the cushion is an additional layer of foam that is loaded with black ink that functions as an inkpad. To create an interactive ink print, you place a piece of canvas between the loaded inkpad and the cushion. As users sit, touch, or lie on the Daybed, the inkpad marks the spots of contact. The cushion is thick enough that it is a relatively abstract representation of the interaction as can be seen in the last photograph, which shows one of the prints produced with the bed.
